There have been some contradicting and confusing news over the last couple of days. First Carrie Fisher confirmed her return for Episode 7, then it was called a joke. Now it seems the former master himself spoke up, ignoring Disney's current pact of silent.
Asked whether members of the original Star Wars cast will appear in Episode VII and if he called them before the deal closed to keep them informed, Lucas says, "We had already signed Mark and Carrie and Harrison-or we were pretty much in final stages of negotiation. So I called them to say, ‘Look, this is what's going on.' " He pauses. "Maybe I'm not supposed to say that. I think they want to announce that with some big whoop-de-do, but we were negotiating with them." Then he adds: "I won't say whether the negotiations were successful or not."

How do you guys feel about them returning?

I certain don't want them to show up just to get heroically killed within the first act to make space for the likes of Zac Efron or Taylor Lautner. I'd hate that.
Then again, each SW episode had old characters and some of them are among the most interesting ones. Give Hamill a decent beard and a mentor function and that'd work great. Leia would still be politician of course. Han may be the trickiest of them all, because he certainly won't be flying around smuggling stuff at 70.
The writers have to make sure they are recognizable as characters, yet have them progressed. Tricky!

Thoughts?

They've confirmed that Leia will be back, but she'll be much older and will retain her original hairstyle. I also agree that Solo will be the most difficult, but I'm interested to see how they're going to spin the villainy. The Empire has been defeated, so I have to assume they're going to introduce a rogue general (like in the books) or perhaps another dark jedi.

I just hope they don't mess it up. I hate how hollywood makes it all about the crowds, and put people like Efron or Bieber into these roles. I still think Hayden was useless as Vader. They could have done ten times better.

From what I hear, Leia's kids end up Dark Jedi while Luke's Light Jedi offspring oppose them. - 11/03/2013 10:56:54 AM 589 Views
