First it was a skyscraper, then an airport, then all of New York, later half of the country, and now? John McClane is visiting Moscow to talk to his estranged son and it doesn't bode well for the city.
The story remains somewhat simplistic, even though there is a nice little twist in the third act, but let's face it: all you want from a Die Hard movie is non-stop action, and they're delivering on that front. The editing and camera work follows the recent tendency to be as hectic and shaky as possible to give it a "in the middle of things" feeling. That may not be to everyone's liking, but you're getting used to it.
The action is well timed and sometimes pretty spectacular, the breaks are short and filled with only the necessary amount of father-son bonding. Thankfully the son (Jay Courtney) is not as annoying as other movie sons have been in the past, even delivers a few pretty good lines. Even though there could have been more references and hints to the franchise's history, you can still rely on McClane to start laughing in the most inappropriate situations, belittling the villains and shooting his mouth off at them before shooting them for real. That's still a lot of fun.
Nitpicks could easily rip the film apart for putting Chernobyl into driving distance from Moscow or magically having the radiation there disappear whenever necessary. But the showdown is too big and too much fun to worry about any of that all that much.
The film is surprisingly short, and yet the last two minutes could have easily been ditched. Not a flawless movie by any means and nowhere near the excellence of the first three parts but still a loud, entertaining and fun action flick, no more, no less.

Does this actually have a good enough plot or is it like the expendables?

Saw it today and I thought it the weakest of the Die Hard series. I was disappointed.
