And I'm not sure what to think. At first, I thought Peter would disappear when the timeline restarted, but the theory that since he is an anomaly from a prior timeline, and therefore not subject to the usual rules of this timeline, makes some sense. It could be that while the Observers are gone from the post-season 3 timeline, they still exist in the previous timeline and therefore September still saved Peter.

I'm a little confused by the way Windmark died as well. Did Olivia do that, channeling so much psychic energy that it caused the electricity throughout a large portion of the city to fail? I'm not too concerned with why and how she was able to do that, there are as many possibilities and loopholes for her cortexiphan powers as there is time to contemplate them. What I'm really wondering about is why Michael put his finger to his lips again. The first time he did that, I thought it was his way of helping, the universal "Shh" symbol, and then Astrid just thinks of a solution to their problem... a shipping portal. Shh. He provided a little jolt that they needed to come to the right answer, that was how I read that scene, but then why did he do it the second time with Olivia? I almost think that it was his telekinesis that killed Windmark, but maybe that's just me looking for meaning where there is none.

What confuses me most, and bothers me about the series, is the fourth season finale, and the relationship between Jones and Bell. Was Bell evil in the original timeline? Was Nina? Or was Jones operating independently in the one, and serving Bell in the other? My pet theory is that Olivia was the one that affected everything. In the original timeline, she was found by Peter in the meadow, and didn't leave the experiment (at least I think she didn't), and was never adopted by Nina. The proximity to her made Bell remain good, while Nina became evil and sided with Jones. In the alternate timeline, Nina adopted her, and so she remained good while Bell became evil. I'm not sure why Olivia would have such an influence on Bell, but it seems plausible, or at least like an interesting parallel. Though while I'm on the subject, why did Nina adopt Olivia and her sister in the first place?

Another question is whether Olivia and Fauxlivia were switched in the alternate timeline as well. At first it seems like they wouldn't be, since Peter didn't exist, so they had no reason to travel there, and Broyles is alive and so hadn't saved Olivia. But then Walter's comments regarding Fauxlivia and his initial hatred of her make it seem like she did infiltrate them after all. But perhaps Olivia was simply kidnapped and not replaced, or got out in some other way. It's really just the Bell and Jones issue that concerns and bothers me.

Overall, despite it all, I loved Fringe. It was a show that was exciting, interesting, with good ideas, good plots, and characters that you could really grow to like and love. Best of all, it was a show that really had the elements to capture my imagination. I'm sad that it's over, and that I've gotten through all the episodes already. But considering all the questions left behind, perhaps I can justify a second viewing in the near future.
