Not brilliant by any means but the characters are enjoyable and the stories are fairly well written though pretty light and not thought provoking.
The only Stephen King books I've read are the first few Dark Towers ones which I wasn't overly impressed with. So I don't no how much influence he's had on the series - from what I read about the series, he's not had much influence beyond inspiring the original idea then the odd passing reference that touches on his works to keep his fans happy.
