Aww we didn't get that trailer, but I've seen it before. *ending spoiler* ironclad Send a noteboard - 26/03/2012 08:42:58 AM
There was this interesting trailer that was apparently about Abe Lincoln being a BAMF before he was president. The audience seemed willing to go along with it until the title came up. Abraham Lincoln : VAMPIRE HUNTER!!! and the whole theater started cracking up. The title is pretty ridiculous though, you have to admit.

About the Hunger Games, I went it to it prepared to hate Jennifer Lawrence's portrayal of Katniss, because I thought she was awful as Mystique in First Class. Surprisingly, I thought she did a great job. A few minutes in, and I didn't even notice JL, it was all Katniss.

Yeah, she was quite excellent. She's gonna be a really big star now.

I didn't find the Game itself to be a letdown, but that might be because I've read the books and knew what to expect. (minor spoiler for the book: I was glad they cut out the part about Katniss' dehydration, that was painful to read and it would have messed up the pace I think.)

Not having read the book I didn't expect the kids having to deal with food issues. If I produced such a TV show I'd make sure everyone is well nourished to deliver a good show. But in the concept of that world, it does make sense I guess.

And though the ending seems to take the "easy way out", in the later books it's clear that Katniss' one up-ing the Capitol is a catalyst for the rest of the plot. Also, part of what doesn't translate to the screen is the exhaustion you (as a reader) feel at the end and the relief, when you realize that your protagonists are going to get a reprieve, because they honestly have gone through a lot of sh!t.

I can imagine that being true. The film moved very fast and skipped most of the problems that come with surviving outdoors, but that's what made it so entertaining. The only slow and slightly boring part was her looking after Peeta's wounds. I just expected a somewhat bigger confrontation with the bad guy in the end, so that was a tad disappointing. The film didn't give you the impression they had gone to hell and back in order to survive, really.

You mustn't be afraid to dream a little bigger, darling.

YA has become huge in the past 5-10 years, thanks to Harry Potter and others. - 25/03/2012 08:58:58 PM 688 Views

I liked it, but at times, I felt like I was a citizen of Panem, watching kids get killed on screen. - 27/03/2012 08:07:48 PM 674 Views
Especially since Katniss is described as olive skinned herself. - 27/03/2012 09:25:46 PM 666 Views
