The Hunger Games? When did this become a big enough thing to have the hordes of adoring fans my facebook news feed tells me it does (judging by their rapturous statuses about the movie)? I mean, i think I may have heard that name before, but it still seems like this movie came out of nowhere. But maybe that's just me, lol.
One question, how realistic does the future society in the movie seem?

It doesn't get very technical, so there is no unrealistic Sci-Fi mumbo jumbo but we mostly just get glimpses at it. Apparently the 12 districts of piss poor working people have been rioting against the flamboyant, rich capitol inhabitants at one point and now get "punished" each year by being forced to send a teenage boy and girl to the Hunger Games. We sadly do not hear about how this new North American continent Panem came to pass, why exactly there are 12 districts, etc. It's still pretty interesting and makes you want to know more.

YA has become huge in the past 5-10 years, thanks to Harry Potter and others.

YA is a fairly recent invention anyway. (Not that it isn't great! I think it's a great invention!)

I liked the movie, but the absolute funniest part was during the trailers:

I liked it, but at times, I felt like I was a citizen of Panem, watching kids get killed on screen.

Especially since Katniss is described as olive skinned herself.
