It was no groundbreaking storytelling by any means, but the warm, family-friendly weekly adventures of characters that starting growing on you. Reminded me of Star Trek TNG in that regard. The season finale was even really great and thankfully answered a lot of questions. Of course a lot of potential got wasted now that there won't be more. It's disappointing, even if not surprising.
As for Fringe, the first half of season 4 has been a bit disappointing, I didn't start with the episodes after the Christmas break yet and hope they picked up. Maybe it is time to wrap up that show though, things are getting a tad too complicated at times.
I love that show, but it is very convoluted at the moment.
