One thing you can say about Glee... Cannoli Send a noteboard - 18/02/2012 01:32:47 AM
It has actually proven useful in one small way. I gave up on the show after the first season but when I hear about a particular piece of music they perform or show topic of interest, I check it out, as I did, belatedly when they did a Fleetwood Mac tribute. The phenomenon I had occasionally witnessed occurred twice in that one. What I have noticed, is that in their performances of a few songs I like, I can actually UNDERSTAND the lyrics! Particularly when Artie the wheelchair kid sings. Among the song lyrics I have learned include from "Dancing With Myself"But your empty eyes seem to pass me by, "I Don't Want To Know" I don't want to stand between you and love, honey...Finally baby, the truth is getting told...hey, you know what you do, "Never Going Back Again" Made me see where I been, "You Can't Always Get What You Want" Blow a fifty amp fuse (actually, a lot of that song - I really empathize with Whoopi Goldberg in "Jumping Jack Flash" when she got frustrated trying to decipher lyrics and screamed "sing in English, Mick" ), and I even learned the real title of "Safety Dance" having previously believed they were singing 'Safe to dance' which IMO, makes a lot more sense in the context of the rest of the lyrics. After 'you can't dance if you want to'. Why? Because it's 'safe to dance.'

You know what? Screw Glee! Thanks to Glee I now have joined the ranks of people I laughed at for making similar mistakes! It's one thing to laugh at people who though Credence Clearwater Revival was advising you that 'There's a bathroom on the right' and it's another entirely to realize that a song you had (thought) you'd only heard OF, not actually heard, and another whose lyrics with which you (thought you) were familiar, were in fact, the same song! "Safety Dance?" Don't know that one, oh, but while we're on the subject are you familiar with the one that goes "it's safe to dance?"

I think I still dislike that show. And a lot more than I would have thought I could dislike a show that seems to be a clumsy and unsubtle piece of propaganda purporting to demonstrate how horrible gay people are.
