This season, I felt that it was cheapened by the Deb sub plot of the last two episodes. I feel that the end would have been more powerful without the Deb Loves Dexter subplot. It didn't make sense and was obviously thrown in at the last minute.
A total Brandon Sanderson move, where the new writer(s) lack the insight to see what has already been established in the material to date. As I said above, they had character stuff established to justify her acceptance of her. They didn't need to make a hormonal motivation.
