What's worse is that the son appears to be the same character from that of War of the Worlds.
I hope that they don't make the TN community the evil one and have the sixers be the good/noble one. It's too obvious and rather a cliché. By all means have both communities be a combination of good and bad points/ideals as that is somewhat realistic.
As for why the family have three children, I'm guessing that the son is not the biological offspring of the mother (I'm also guessing that he hasn't managed to figure this out for himself). It would explain how the mother could have had the second daughter as records would have shown that it was only her second time giving birth.
