I haven't been able to look to confirm this, but apparently the house that the Doctor gives to Amy and Rory, dropping them off there at the end of this episode, is the same house they're in at the start of The Impossible Astronaut. Which ... what?
We've been assuming that the story has been a linear progression from Amy and Rory's point of view, but what if it hasn't? I can't even properly wrap my head around the idea. It would mean that from their point of view right now, The Impossible Astronaut hasn't happened yet. The Doctor dropped them off and left them, then a couple months later they get the blue envelope inviting them to America. But I don't even know if that works. I don't know where the break could be, where we stopped seeing their progression and started seeing older episodes. The idea makes no sense. There was definitely a progression of Amy saying she was pregnant, getting replaced by a flesh duplicate, having her baby, getting her baby taken away, trying to get the Doctor to find her baby, learning Mels is her daughter, and now here in this episode she asks the Doctor to tell her daughter to come visit sometime. There's a clear progression there, yet they end up with a new house that is exactly the same as the house they started in?
And it must have been a new house. The Doctor gives them door keys, and before he does Amy makes a crack about how it's not a real house, not giving any indication she recognizes it or views it as home. But if it really is the same house as at the start of the season, I just don't know what to think.
