I don't see what the show's status as a "true classic" has to do with anything. If you want to watch it more than once, it makes sense to own the DVDs.
You might as well say "I don't understand the concept of owning books."
I don't really own books either, in that sense. The vast majority of books I have sitting on my shelfs right now are books from a series that hasn't concluded yet. I'll keep them soley for reference purposes until the series ends. The ones I keep/own, are ones that I know I will read again. Other ones that I keep/own are reference books, such as a dictionary. So, I have about 5 books that I own, as defined by the context of this conversation.
