Given that TNT shows a commercial for the show during every break, I was hoping that it would actually be good... Yeah, that really didn't happen.
There was a lot about this show that had me scratching my head. I was rather confused as to why everyone spent so much time standing out in the open during an enemy invasion/occupation or why the alien mechs used flashlights instead of the heat sensors they use for their ships--it seems as though they would be far more effective, but I suppose the aliens deciding not to put it into the design gives us humans a sporting chance. How did taking out the legs of the aliens not occur to the resistance? Apparently only the least clever survived the initial invasion, which would explain why a small gang managed to ambush and get the better of them.
It feels like the show is going out of its way to make Will Patton's character an asshole, which is actually somewhat funny to me... because I don't remember any other soldiers exhibiting that sort of behavior (though it was mentioned by the doctor). It puts an image in my mind of the show telling all the soldiers they're cool, but pointing out Will Patton's character and saying, "Except you, you're a prick."
I was just not impressed by the show. It might have proven better had they attempted to stray away from the cliche, but so far the show is walking well-trod ground and not offering up anything better than what came before.
Oh, yes, I should probably mention that the black guy was killed first...

"It's a strange world. Let's keep it that way."

It's basically "The Librarian" (Noah Wyle in all 3) in TV serial form with an alien invasion plot.
