One of the coolest part of the book was how this "green" boy outsmarted Tywin Lannister and how his direwolf led them through a secret path to get to Jamie. But for somebody who hasn't read the books, would those scenes make sense? All of a sudden Jamie is captured after being gone the past few episodes. Did people know what he was doing and where he was?
I haven't read the book, but it worked for me. I did not have a very clear idea of what Jaime Lannister was up to, but I knew they had to choose which army to fight, and the effect of the ruse worked very well for me: the expectation that they were going to go headlong into a bad battle and then finding that that was just a feint.
