Which is sad, because I really enjoy the source material.

I maintain my position that the 2nd movie in the franchise is horrendous, laughably bad. The 3rd movie is much better, more a fantasy adventure, where the first movie was a pirate adventure with some fantasy elements. I still think the 1st movie was the best movie. The 3rd movie is pretty dang entertaining. The 2nd movie is garbage.

I disagree about the ranking. I found the 2nd to be very entertaining and enjoyable, while the pacing of the 3rd just sort of drags on.

Overall I still entirely fail to see huuuge differences between the quality of the first three films, except for the pace of the 3rd and the somewhat too weird "afterlife" that keeps Jack trapped in the beginning.
