What's the deal with the source material? It looks like the plot was ripped off from Douglas Adams

From what I have seen in the previews, the set up is the same premise as "The Long Dark Tea Time of the Soul" the second Dirk Gentley novel by Douglas Adams. In that book, in order to teach Thor some humility, he is condemned to a task on Earth, and meets up with a hot human chick. I forget how the rest of the book goes, but I remember that much. Also there was a bird and a Coke machine. So is that where they got what seems to be the story for the movie, or is that really a storyline in the comic book?
