...I pretty much agree with most of what you said here and with your final judgement. The fact that one can have a discussion like you and Roland actually speaks for the film, though. Like you, I am still not sure what to think about the different levels, how well they connected and if that made sense.
I think it would have been cooler if the film started in the brothel and the existence of the nuthouse would have been the twist. The film did manage to surprise me in the second half, though. Blue's little killing spree was quite shocking. Sweet Pea being the one who flew over the cuckoos nest was also quite a surprise.
There was a bit too much slo-mo and super-close ups on bullets, girls landing in the same position all the time, etc. The movie never tried to be subtle, that's fine, but things got a bit repetitive when they could have been just fun.
So overall I'd call it a brave attempt, that didn't fail entirely but could have been a lot cooler and especially emotionally more gripping with a smarter script.
