Re: Babylon 5 (old, but good)
Yeah, I've heard. The look of a show isn't extremely important to me, but I just couldn't get over how bad it looked when I tried it. I watched part of the first episode of the original Battlestar Galactica last night and it looked about 100x better than the first episodes of Babylon 5. I couldn't stand that.
You didn't accidentally try the pilot, did you? Because that is atrocious. But Babylon 5 is also one of those shows which grows into itself. They are all a little stiff in the beginning, but it gets better.
Doctor Who (maybe)
Too goofy. My wife thought it was funny though. Maybe if I start it from the beginning and try it from there instead of just catching a random episode from Syfy?
Maybe. You do not have to start in the 60s, though. When they did the New Series thing, they made it possible to start with Season 1 (2005). Also a series that gets much better as it goes along.
You might like Dollhouse, as well.
I'd rather have something that lasted more than just a few episodes really.
It lasted two seasons!
You might also like Castle and White Collar.
I'll have to do a little research on these before I make any sort of opinions.
They are not science fiction. Both are ... I suppose you could call them detective shows with humour, but it does not cover it. Nathan Fillion from Firefly is the main character in Castle. The other one is about a con artist who helps the FBI.
The reason why I suggested them is that you listed House.

FWIW, Angel is a much better character on his own show than he was on Buffy. *NM*

I never liked him because he was a vampire sleeping with the Slayer.
