That is incredibly sad. Tashmere Send a noteboard - 22/11/2010 10:18:30 PM
But yeah, when one reads about the enormous commercial success of Yes and other bands in the seventies and eighties, mostly in the US, it's quite surprising considering how much of a niche market it is now. No doubt Americans of your generation are far, far more familiar with Yes than people of my generation.

One big difference between then and now is that the radio stations didn't stick to specific genres. At least not the ones in smaller markets. There was no pre-programming and there wasn't enough of a market to divide genres. Our stations in the 70's played everything that fell within the rock-pop range, So everybody was familiar with a wider range of music. I miss that. I find that I can't listen to any one station now for very long before I get tired of that type of music and hearing the sames songs over and over. I would love to have an old school station that played everything so that I wouldn't get tired of the same songs being shoved down my throat. (My co-workers like listening to the radio in the morning and I am deathly sick of it. But I don't want to rain on their parade so I just put in ear plugs and try to ignore it.)
