I definitely got you, but I had totally forgotten about the Sly arm wrestling movie.

I thought 300 was style over substance and that The Watchmen was "okay." Not the worst movies ever, but... meh. SP just doesn't appeal to me, visuals aside. Throw in a bunch of hot college-aged girls, lots of CGI, crazy action scenes and market it to the 18-35 demographic. It might as well be Transformers 3 at that point.
Over the top (as you're talking about here) is fun sometimes. Just switch the brain off and watch the pretty (violent) pictures. I enjoyed 300 and Watchmen for what they were. There was more story to both of them than Transformers 2 at least. I'm in the target demographic you mentioned, so don't attack when I say that I am looking forward to another Transformers installment.
I'm sure this will be much more arty and have a cultier following, but you get what I'm saying. Some people will love it, but it's not my thing.
I don't know. I'm going to give it a chance, but I think it's got more of a cheese factor to it than 300 and Watchmen did. Looks gritty, don't get me wrong, the super model ninja thing (while visually appealing) seems silly.

Yep. An asylum filled with models, crazy slow-mo action scenes, etc. Over the top.

Didn't mean to sound attacking. I'm in that demographic, too. I just grow... weary of the usual.

Didn't think you were attacking. Hollywood success breads repetition.
