You can take almost any sifi plot and make it sound absurd but when you break down down the plot of the new movie even the pieces are absurd. The motivation of characters does not even seem to be consideration, all they wanted to accomplish certain "cool" points like killing a guy wearing a red shirt. Why did they abandon Kirk on an ice planet when they have a brig? Why could see Vulcan destroyed from the surface of this ice planet? Why again did Kirk becoming acting First Officer? Of yes for insubordination and cheating. Why did the Vulcan Spock not want Kirk to tell the younger Spock he was there? Because the Vulcan trusted in the power of love.

Sorry it was a stupid movie that assumed it viewers would not care how stupid the plot was as long as enough cool things happened. Sadly they were right.
