I liked this movie much more than I thought I would.
Of course, it follows all manner of cliches in parts, but overall I found it hugely entertaining and very funny in parts. The special effects are excellent and the story is far more developed than you'd expect from this type of movie. It really reminded me of the original Neverending Story in parts.
In short, a boy must be trained as a sorceror to save the world. Cliched? Absolutely. However, they show both modern and ancient versions of sorcery and seeing it adapted to the modern world is very entertaining.
The main protagonist could be irritating at times and he's geekier than most losers they find to take up the belt of some godly destiny. Nicholas Cage is excellent as his master, and the villains in the form of Alfred Molina and Alice Krige are venemous and well-played.
I wasn't disappointed by this movie. I doubt you will be either.
7/10
Husband complained about it being cliched, but I asked him what exactly he was expecting to see and he agreed. It was cute and fun. The Force joke had me laughing out loud which I certainly didn't expect walking in.

Alice Krige creeped me the hell out in Sleepwalkers. (But I still love her to bits) *NM*

I didn't see it, yet, but I immediately thought of "Mage: The Awakening".
