It was pretty much the premise of the first half of the first season, and then quickly discarded. For good reason.
Now it's about power and desire, and the ability to maintain some semblance of virtue while being thrust into a world full of people who will exploit virtue as weakness. How does one maintain their sense of right and wrong in the midst of insanity? Bill, Eric, Sookie, and Tara have all been struggling with that concept for the first half of the season... and some of them are concluding that being a good person is just too much of a bother.

Or maybe I'm just too simpleminded to care about "what it's REALLY about."
Well, I guess I'm referring to how you're entertained. some of us like to read into subtext and concepts in conflict with each other. Others just like the pretty colors on the TV screen. To each their own!
