The Last Airbender: From someone who rarely saw the TV Show. Please don't yell at me.

It was good. Not mind-blowing, but good.
Now just hold your horses. Just hold them for 2 seconds before you jump down my throat to strangle me, okay? I don't have the blind rage for the "butchering" of source material.
The action was good, although the use of slow motion began to lose it's "wow" factor about half way through the film. We also enjoyed watching the forms the benders used. If anything gets my Aunt and I to do Tai Chi, it will be watching Avatar!! (the show or the film) The element-spirit magic mechanics were interesting (and seemed relatively accurate from what few episodes I have watched).
As far as plot/characters, etc... I didn't find them near as bad as those more familiar with the source material. Like all movies, there were flaws, but the only times I was thinking "okay okay move on" were any time the Princess was talking. Omigod was she annoying. I never saw any episodes with her; is she that grating in the show? I can't even peg what it is about her that annoys me.
The only other aspect of the movie that really seemed to bother me was the use of so. many. white people. And they were so white. I can't believe how WHITE Sokka was. OMIGOD. *facepalm* Oh and Sokka annoyed me too, but he annoyed me in the television episodes too, so I think that's just a personality trait
As someone who has not watched more than a few episodes, I'd give this movie a 3 out of 5 thumbs up. Not Excellent, but not bad.
And those of you who hated it for how it betrayed the source material (I'm not denying that it did, by the way)? I'd still try to keep yourselves from stopping your friends who haven't seen the show from watching the film. My aunt and cousins were not the only ones I heard displaying an interested in "Watching the show now".
I understand your rage at the directors abuse of the source material. Goodness knows that this is the whole reason why I avoid horse movies.
But for the rest of us? The movie really wasn't that bad at all. It was enjoyable and you left it smiling. I look forward to maybe getting some of the seasons, and maybe even a sequel movie.
*sighs* okay. *Braces* you may unleash your nerdrage.

I think they should have removed the plot point about the Water spirits being mystical fish
