Oh please, this is not unique to Twilight fandom

You make it sound as though no fan of any series has ever debated the end of a romantic plot. I find this especially hilarious for a post on RAFO, because I have seen the following passionately debated here (and elsewhere) in various forms...even though the book 'closed' the matter:
1. Ivanhoe really belonged with Rebecca, not Rowena
2. Hermione should have chosen Harry over Ron
3. Lily and Snape were soooo meant to be
Other ardent Team X proclamations I've seen/heard:
1. Colonel Brandon?!? Marianne belonged with (a seriously reformed) Willoughby!
2. Move over, Amy, Laurie belongs with Jo!
etc.
You may despise the Twilight books, but don't credit/disparage its hysterical fandom debates as anything new.

The chief difficulty Alice found at first was in managing her flamingo.
What is the deal with this "Team Edward" or "Team Jacob" business?

Really? Where does one get one's Ivanhoe tee-shirts or the Brandon-Marianne 'shipper site?
