I'd say that what makes Firefly so good is precisely that that is not all it has to lean on.
I love the series. I do. But I think I loved it more for its presentation and characters than for its plot. It didn't have sustainability, for me. I think I'd've watched it the way I watched the last two seasons of Buffy. They're all there, I love them, I wish like hell they'd do something sensible now.
