it's probably more named for the franchise than the fighting style

I'm actually really looking forward to it. Jackie Chan has enough pull, particularly in this type of film, that I hope he won't let it suck. And overall, it looks pretty hardcore-awesome. That little kid looks like a badass who won't do any of that whimpering "but this is SO HARD" nonsense.
And just looking at the scowls on those little bullying brats faces in the trailers makes me SO eager to see them get their faces kicked in.

Still Empress of the Poofy Purple Pillow Pile Palace!!

I've seen it subtitled on some posters as Kung Fu Kid *NM*

That's the name in China. "Karate" is just the term Americans recognize for martial art. *NM*

I don't think it's THAT pathetic. It's just because they kept the title of the film being remade.

It is called Karate Kid to gain an additional financial boost from nostalgia & pop culture

See, I know that. But in my world that does not constitute an excuse. *NM*

Is "gong fu" the new alternative spelling for "kung fu" now? I wondered in Gone-Away World. *NM*
