I haven't seen the original, but I found the whole set up and storytelling wonderfully scary and unpleasant to watch. Her climbing out of the TV didn't do anything for me, though. I find the connection of new technology and horror doesn't work. Had she climbed out of an old photograph or painting....
I mean, maybe if it had been a BluRay ... I thought the climbing out of the tv thing was cool though. A bit diminished, perhaps because I knew what was going to happen, but I dunno if it would have worked as well with a photo or a painting.
lol, I dunno, it's the whole "connected to electricity" thing. I like my horror a bit old fashioned. But that's just me.
Just like "feardotcom" was about horror coming from a website. Not scary!
I think any kind of subject matter can work really, as long as its done well. A great concept really helps make a movie good, but it's not essential. Execution is more important in my opinion.
The Blair Witch Project, although I hate that film at the same time.
I've never seen that movie. Why do you love/hate it?
It's not pleasant to watch: unsettling atmosphere, shaky cam, terrifying ending. But at the same time, it did its job, it scared the shit out of me (at the movies, not sure how it works as a first on TV), so I have to list it among the favorites.
Sounds interesting, I'll have to check it out sometime.

Does a VHS tape even count as new technology any more?
