Also considering how little interest the character had in travelling I thought it a little odd that he had a postcard from the Van Gough exhibition in Paris stuck on his fridge. Perhaps the girlfriend had been and sent it to him.
It popped into my head last night. The Doctor asked him if he'd been to Paris, and if he wanted to go to Paris, and he said no to both. So why would they put that onto the fridge if they made sure the character said multiple times that he had no interest in Paris?
