One of the better films from the wave of Japanese horror movies

is a scary movie. My whole family watched it together the other night, quite a fun time. There were some parts where it dragged a bit, and some of the effects were a bit eh, but overall I liked it a great deal. It was scary without being gory or otherwise stupid. One of my favorite parts was when the mom tells her son that's its okay now because she helped Samara get out of the well and the little boy freaks out and is all like "SHE NEVER SLEEPS." Hahahaha great moment.
So, what did you think of The Ring? Anyone seen the Japanese original? What are your favorite scary movies, and why?

I haven't seen the original, but I found the whole set up and storytelling wonderfully scary and unpleasant to watch. Her climbing out of the TV didn't do anything for me, though. I find the connection of new technology and horror doesn't work. Had she climbed out of an old photograph or painting....
But decent movie overall. Unlike The Grudge, for example, which was crap.
My favorite scary movies would have to be The exorcist, The sixth sense and the Blair Witch Project, although I hate that film at the same time.

Does a VHS tape even count as new technology any more?
