I guess it's just all tying into the memory theme. This is the... 4th(?) time they've shown all 11 Doctors. Kinda getting ridiculous. I'm guessing this time-calamity that causes the cracks and the whole memory thing makes them important somehow.
It's possible that they just wanted to reinforce Matt Smith's place, as he was followIng on from a ridiculously popular Doctor, but I'm not completely convinced that's it.
Maybe it's just a bit of fun, I quite like the references anyway.
