What is with this emphasis on the Doctor's multiple incarnations?

I guess it's just all tying into the memory theme. This is the... 4th(?) time they've shown all 11 Doctors. Kinda getting ridiculous. I'm guessing this time-calamity that causes the cracks and the whole memory thing makes them important somehow.
