The murder-to-solve was fairly irrelevant and just fodder for the main two points, the scene with Angela's dad and Booth and bones splitting for a year.

But, overall the show is not going anywhere and has nowhere to go. Bones has made peace with her dad and brother and admitted her love for Booth and Booth has made peace with being a father and has admitted his love for Bones. Sweets and that annoying chick have split although really sweet's role has always been to hint at the obvious - Bones and Booth's love for each other. So, Sweet's character purpose has been met. Angela and Hodgins are back together as they should always have been and Hodgins has made good with her dad which was always the stumbling block to that relationship. And Cam has become a good mother which is really about all we needed to see of her character. The interns are simply filler although I think the writers did a good job utilizing them this year.

Simply put, the show really doesn't have anywhere to go. I'm sure they'll continue to drag it out as long as advertisers continue to pony up but I suspect that rating will begin to drop off next year and Fox will think twice before giving up on it (they already had a deal for next year so there wouldn't have been a point in canceling it). I could be wrong of course but I have to wonder how many people feel like I do. I found myself uninterested in entire episodes this year and I was even annoyed when they brought back the one killer for a THIRD appearance last week.

I'd rather they end the show on a high note instead of seeing it lag, get boring, and finally be canceled. I've loved this show since I first saw it but I see the writing on the wall. next year I don't think I'm going to make the effort to watch on TV; I'll probably just watch Online here and there when I get a chance.
