Lily's become the shrewish "Mom" who disapproves of everything. Ted is just... ugh. Barney has a new "thing" every week, to the point where it's become stale. Robin... I'm not sure how to describe her, but she's not awesome anymore.
Plus, they constantly do jokes in this format: "God, he's so terrible. I would never be that terrible." "Oh Really? Then why do you always [example of terrible thing that character supposedly ALWAYS DOES, even though we've never seen an example of this, nor will again]"
The show is really at its worst whenever it focuses on Ted's Girlfriends (other than Robin, anyway). They're always either boring, or Ted acts annoying about them. Or both, in the case of what'shername from Scrubs.
It's at its BEST when it's just the characters interacting with each other, talking and joking- like the one where they're mourning Marshall's Car, or the awesomeness that was Slap Bet.
