How many of you have played Assassin, perhaps in high school?
In brief, it is a mock-assassination spy-vs-spy style game where you attempt to tag your target. Methods range from water pistols and nerf guns to post-it notes. If you ever saw Big Trouble (a Tim Allen movie), his kid was playing a version of Assassins.
So, the question is, how do you play it on a messageboard?
This is what I'm thinking.
First, someone organizes it, of course, by assigning victims to everyone and acting as judge over disputes.
Second, the game should take place site-wide, across any board that all players have access to (so no Team Board stuff, as I assume there is a team board here).
Third, the method of assassination has to be subtle, as in the real game, so as not to disrupt other site activities too much. I'm thinking perhaps that the assassin posts a reply to a post by the other player without them responding within a certain amount of time, and then seeing that they've succeeded, they note their victim and inform them that they have been eliminated. That may be too easy to avoid, though, so I welcome ideas.
Fourth, there must be a time limit so as to make sure no one goes on assassinating after they've been assassinated.
Fifth, on the use of alternate screennames. Not sure if it matters as I think assassins are usually unknown to other players.
Sixth, once you have been assassinated, you must send a noteboard to your assassin immediately with the name of your target so that the assassin can move on to their next target.
Seventh, players shouldn't post that they're involved, but rather should keep it between them and the administrator. I suppose this is prudent. I'm really just pulling rules out of nowhere at this point.
I've never actually played the game, only knowing some who have. Anyone who has played can surely offer advice. So, help me figure out how to make this work.
