Nah, he'll tie himself on the hammer vote, so no auto-death, then each participant in the duel gets to select RPS, he'd just pick scissors for the hammer and rock for the lynchee, so he'd lose and owe himself a boon and we'd go into night phase. Day ends if the lynchee wins or loses their duel, only continues if the hammer refuses the challenge. Obviously we can't have people dueling themselves to indefinitely escape being lynched though, barring well coordinated agreements for two players to slap a vote on at nearly the same time... so the most obvious solutions is just to ban self-voting, or at least self-hammering during the game, I just want to think it over and make sure that doesn't open up some new can of worms before finalizing it.
Using a very similar mechanism, the mafia could arrange to hammer each other and rig their duels so as to be unlynchable.
No, that one I did actually consider, any player who gets in the hammer vote before someone would nullify that and I'm not really worried about someone pulling it off once or twice, they'd finger themselves as allied in some fashion, though I probably need to amend rules so that anyone capable of NB communication can not tell anyone else what they would pick for RPS in advance just to make it less valuable. The matter is, however, not an issue, for reasons I can't discuss without lending one faction or entity an advantage over the other(s).
I'm sorry I didn't notice these things earlier so I could let you know, Isaac. As I said, I've been extraordinarily busy of late and I didn't look very closely at the dueling rules until it become apparent that I was today's chosen scapegoat.
I should have noticed it myself, it's an easy patch it's just that in the middle of it, I dislike changing rules, if I void your vote I'm removing from you an effective legal escape route which amounts to punishing you for being clever, if I ask you to voluntarily withdraw it I potentially generate mod-made WIFOMs which I really hate, amongst other things. My current preference is to just null the vote and declare a 48 hour extension, I'm just running through the list of possible screw ups before enacting that.
The intuitive mind is a sacred gift and the rational mind is a faithful servant. We have created a society that honors the servant and has forgotten the gift.
