We have an excellent selection of strategy games here now, and I thoroughly enjoy them. However, this is the RPG board, and they are all fairly light on role-playing.
I know that traditional RPGs have been tried here before with varying degrees of success, and I also know that it is the slow pace of forum play in a rules-heavy system that causes them to stagnate and die.
My solution is to take the focus off of the game and move it on to the character. I propose that we start a "character bank" under the guise of an elite group like the Justice League or the Avengers. For now, I will call this new group the Really Awesome Forces Organization.
Anyone at any time can make their own characters for the Really Awesome Forces Organization according to the character creation guidelines we decide on. I personally would prefer allowing every RPG system ever made, but this would be a good topic for discussion.
Anyone at any time can make their own game and recruit characters from the Really Awesome Forces Organization (provided there are interested players, of course).
Characters can be in multiple games simultaneously and character advancement is global across all games, although it could be delayed at an individual game mod's discretion.
When a game dies down, you can let it rest for a while and focus on other games, or you can call it the end of an episode, close it off, and continue your characters elsewhere.
There would be additional opportunities for character advancement and development outside of games. For instance, these could be training missions or sparring matches using the medium of competitive fiction, which is also something I have been meaning to see implemented here.
So, what do you all think? Have I confused everyone yet?
