In the books, Highlord Turak sees Rand's blade and engages him in a swordfight because he wants to see what it means to be a blademaster on this side of the ocean.
In the show, he says the line “let us see what is required to earn the Heron blade on this side of the ocean” and is promptly slaughtered alongside all of his retinue by Rand channeling the One Power.
"We feel safe when we read what we recognise, what does not challenge our way of thinking.... a steady acceptance of pre-arranged patterns leads to the inability to question what we are told."
