You'd think. But they mentioned her twice last season, and given their complete lack of patience and general failure at setup, it probably means she's just around the corner.

This is the show everyone is giving credit for "aging up" the main characters, and letting them be "more mature". They were 19 in EotW & tGH and 20 in Season 1. Huge age-up there. They were not even pushed across a milestone age like 18 or 21. There is almost nothing you can do at 20 that you could not at 19. But these "more mature" characters are less intelligent, less sophisticated, possessed of less self-control, and are more petty, lazy, appetite-driven, selfish and short-sighted. They have shorter tempers and are more prone to violence.

But they have more sex! Clearly maturity!

The thing is, if you have seen Aghdashloo play Dina Araz or Nadia Maroni, you know she can NAIL the Elaida of the early series, with her calm menace and iron self-control. Years before every TV show started introducing dangerous villains in the midst of doing mundane tasks (usually cooking), we had Elaida in a royal court, sitting next to the queen and knitting. But given how the show loves its excessively emotional behavior, and conflates shouting and contrarian behavior with strength and power, I am afraid they're going to write Elaida like Crisjen Avrasarala. "This fucking peasant is at the heart of it all!" "We have to pull down that fucking bitch Siuan for the good of the fucking Tower."

Oh well. We'll see.
