If they had been able to get past that, they could have focused more on the integration of Numenor into the war between Elves and Sauron. I guess I will wait and see if they even have Sauron go to Numenor to lead to its downfall. I mean it's one of those events in the Middle Earth chronology that has to happen to ensure that Sauron's body is lost.

It will probably occur to them that they can have Galadriel slay his body instead. So they don't have to worry about the logistics of getting Sauron to Numenor (not that that ever stopped them from doing a thing anyway), and can give their girlboss another win.

Honestly, I don't really see how there is room for Sauron to corrupt Ar-Pharazon anyway, he's so OTT and escalating so rapidly that if he "captured" Sauron and brought him to Numenor, Sauron would probably be trying to put the brakes on because he was going run his regime into the ground before he could manage the attack on Valinor.
