Sauron is a giant flaming eyeball, Aragorn doesn't have any interest in being a king and Elrond apparently despises Men for being weak, Helm's Deep takes up the majority of the second film, Denethor is a raving lunatic who gives up as soon as he sees the forces of Mordor...
Yes, yes. Women are scary, and elves should all be white. We know. The woke elite mob is going to resurrect Tolkien and forcibly reassign his gender to female.
Personally I think ROP got the balance right between white/non-white actors and honestly the best character in the entire show is Princess Disa. I would watch an entire series just focused on her life. Absolutely love her.
But there are serious problems with the story as presented to us. While I understand the compression of the timeline is needed to make things make sense given the ages of the character and the reality of filming a 5 season series, there is still too much in this show. And at the same time not enough. By this I mean what I have said before - the entire not-hobbit/not-Gandalf and everything happeing in Rhûn doesn't need to be in the show. It takes away from the show and also shows the writers are too influenced by LOTR instead of being influenced by the Silmarilion. And so the rest of the show, showing the interplay between the Dwarves, Elves, and Numenoreans is not getting the attention it needs.
There are also issues with the order in which the rings are created and the tensions that are a result of that. Speaking of which, the dwarves were supposed to be quite resistant to the effects of the rings and here we don't see the slow decline of their resistance. Instead it is an immediate effect. That's a problem.
I could go on. I watch the show because it is beautiful. And I dont have issues with Ismael Cruz Cordova as an elf. He's actually one of the more interesting characters and better because he doesnt exist in the books and so I don't know his fate. But he is underused this season. I need more of him and to understand his relationship to the other elves.
