The Barrow-downs and the ruined Numenorean colonies were the most egregious to me, because, although the world has been around for quite a while and has suffered quite a bit at this point, it should not have nearly so much of the dull and faded former glory that typifies the Third Age.

Numenor, Eregion, Khazad-dum--those are the things the show should be focusing on, preparing us for their destruction yet to come. If you want sorrow and loss there's the War of Wrath! Plenty to suffering to draw on there.

I'm sort of okay with Bombadil. Don't get me wrong, it's entirely at odds with, well... everything from the books. But it's a new twist on the character, and while it's thematically incoherent with the source material, it more or less fits the show.

I hope we get to see Goldberry at some point. There's been lots of focus on the changes to the landscape and the loss of water, and Tolkien said specifically that Goldberry represented seasonal changes.

I will say that the closing song was quite lovely. I listened to the credits multiple times.

"O slender as a willow-wand! O clearer than clear water!
O reed by the living pool! Fair River-daughter!
O spring-time and summer-time, and spring again after!
O wind on the waterfall, and the leaves' laughter!"
