I think most fans would agree that we don't need the Silmarillion sullied by any TV adaptation, whether it's by these people or anybody else.
I haven't been watching the second season and not sure yet if I will or not, but based on the first one, they seriously misfired as far as I'm concerned with regards to the rights they did and didn't have. What they had was so limited that they could and should have made up entirely new characters, storylines, even cities or countries, while only gradually and tangentially touching on their established canon. For instance, I rather like the 'Galadriel' character - but they should've had the guts to give her some random name and perhaps one or two interactions with the actual Galadriel, rather than trying to shoehorn the heroine they wanted into the existing character of Galadriel which obviously doesn't remotely fit. And of course taking such greater liberties would also have allowed them to introduce racial diversity in a much less controversial way.
Heck no. Any adaptation could only detract from the beauty of that tale.
