I absolutely will say that these are good movies. Legolas Send a noteboard - 09/09/2024 07:47:29 AM

Well, Quantumania maybe not so much. But Black Widow, Eternals and Marvels are all three enjoyable movies, at least as much so as most other MCU movies - provided that one doesn't run screaming from female-led ensemble movies, that is. Iman Vellani is an absolute gem, one of the most talented and charismatic newcomers I can think of in Hollywood in the 21st century, whose TV show Ms Marvel was really great, despite the hysterics of the anti-woke crowd. Admittedly it was a disadvantage for The Marvels that it tried to be a sequel to Captain Marvel, Ms Marvel AND to some extent Wandavision all at the same time - but it was still a very entertaining movie, with good performances from Brie Larson, Teyonah Parris and the villain Zawe Ashton as well.

No doubt there have been cases recently where more diverse casting choices haven't worked out that well, or where the desire for racial diversity on screen has led to outcomes that don't make much sense in the intellectual property in question - but Marvel has done a pretty spectacular job with the casting of its new female PoC stars (to limit myself to just those for a minute). Besides Vellani, Parris and Ashton, there's been Gemma Chan and Lauren Ridloff in Eternals, Alaqua Cox who was also a revelation in Hawkeye and Echo, Xochitl Gomez in Dr Strange, and so on.

I meant Marvel movies in general, not those in particular. I don't enjoy the MCU all that much. - 09/09/2024 08:28:28 AM 74 Views
Do watch the series Ms Marvel first. Even if you don't like superhero stuff, it's worth it. - 09/09/2024 06:04:12 PM 61 Views
