In yet another of their live action abominations remakes, Disney is taking on Snow White, and the hype train began to run off the rails. Apparently Peter Dinklage, having made his bundle as a dwarf actor, denounced the film for including dwarf character, and stereotypes and whatnot, and never mind that the movie is talking about a non-human species, as opposed to human beings with a particular condition, or that an opportunity for seven actors with dwarfism to get a job is being taken off the table at the behest of the guy who gets the lion's share of such roles. Supposedly the movie went back and forth, replacing the dwarves with normal sized people (of diverse attributes, of course) who supposedly represent other magical entities, before switching to CGI abominations that more closely resemble costumed figures with giant heads you see in Disneyworld. The protagonist's hair, updated for modern audiences, from her off-putting 1930s bob, appears to have been inspired by Lord Farquad from Shrek.

The internet had a good laugh at all this a year or so ago when Disney first started promoting the project, and the actress who plays Snow White made a bunch of obnoxious comments deriding the beloved original film, and then followed that up with an extremely tone-deaf and greedy assertion of her motivating principles during the recent strike, that basically played into the image the studios would love everyone to have of the striking actors. Speaking as the star of the film, she said that if she was going to have to wear the Snow White costume, she deserved to be paid each time someone watched the film. Where the original contention was with the writers whose residual pay structure was being exploited by the studios to deprive them of their full compensation, Zegler rephrased it in terms of the far and away least sympathetic and least deserving or exploited members of the industry, the stars of major films, getting paid over and over for work they did once.

She promptly disappeared from the public eye for a while, but not before complaining about her speech being suppressed and being punished for her opinions, which resulted in her own tweets calling for the censorship and silencing of Gina Carano to be dredged up.

And now, trailers have started coming out which do the film no favors, depicting the above-mentioned off-putting visuals, and there is leaked footage on the internet of the scene where Snow White cleans up the dwarves' cottage, in repayment of their allowing her to live there, while her enemies are seeking to kill her. In the cartoon, she enlisted the aid of her animal friends to sweep and dust and whatnot, but in the leaked footage, she is assigning chores and handing out brooms to the dwarves!

This is what the irresistible mandate to replace white actors with people of color, and to eradicate any depiction of women performing traditional gender roles, like housework: A Hispanic woman barges into someone else's home because her own is too dangerous, thanks to unwise choices made by her ancestors, and rather than any tangible demonstration of gratitude, demands the rightful inhabitants labor to make the place suitable to her own preferred standards. The evil queen asks a magic mirror who is the fairest of them all. In a movie with only two known female human beings, one of them is played by Gal Gadot and the other, Rachel Zegler, a notably diminutive and skinny actress whose IRL clothing appears to be desperately tailored to generate the illusion of a womanly shape, the magic mirror apparently picks Zegler. Sure, whatever.
