View original post1. Ceding Crimea
Agree - whatever its history and however bitter it may be to the Crimean Tatars, it's clear that by now the large majority of inhabitants of the Crimea, even outside of Sevastopol, want to be a part of Russia. Even if Ukraine could somehow reconquer it, which they can't, any serious plebiscite would still make it Russian.
View original post2. Ceding the Donets Basin (an area where 75% speak Russian as their primary language - I know you know, this is for other readers of this comment).
Agree as well, for the same reasons.
View original post3. Promising neutrality by promising to never join/attempt to join NATO/the EU.
This is the tricky one. I think it's absurd for Ukraine to join either one in the near future and I might consider to agree about strict military neutrality, so no NATO. But a promise to never attempt to join the EU, that's not a reasonable demand to make. Even Russia might some day join the EU after they go through some very, very thorough changes, there's no reason why Ukraine never could.
View original post4. Respecting the right of Russian speakers to continue speaking Russian in areas where Russians make up a linguistic majority.
Strongly agree - for that matter, also in areas where they don't make up the majority. As I've said elsewhere, I also think the EU should do more in defense of Russian speakers' rights in the Baltics - Russian could and should have been an official language of the EU already a long time ago. Both because it's simply the right thing to do and because it's important to show the world a different kind of Russian identity than Putin's nasty ideology.
View original post5. A return to Ukraine of all children taken by Russian soldiers
Obviously also agree.
View original postThis is not a war that Ukraine can win. But demographically, it is terrible for Russia.
View original postYou don't mention it in your reply to Paul, but Russia too has lot a considerable amount of people. Something like 900,000 people have left Russia. Yes, many will return. But not all. And 110,000 - 140,000 have been killed since 2022. Meanwhile this is not the population that needs to be gone from Russia - these, as you know, are the children of the 1990s and are now in their reproductive years when they need to be having Russian children.
Indeed.
