James Carville has a pretty interesting suggestion in today's NYT damookster Send a noteboard - 08/07/2024 06:32:51 PM

Not at all surprising as he has always been the most pragmatic Democratic campaign strategist. I will link the op ed piece below for those who have a NYT subscription. For those who don't here are the main points.

First, Biden can't win and has to withdraw, either willingly or under pressure from the party.

Second, declaring anyone the heir apparent is also a losing strategy.

What is the alternative? Carville proposes four nationally televised town halls, one in each major region of the country, between now and the Convention. Eight candidates will be chosen to appear, with VP Harris being one.

Carville also proposes that former Presidents Obama and Clinton facilitate these town halls and select the seven others to appear with Ms. Harris. In my opinion, this is not a good idea for their side. It would perpetuate the Far Right claims that the two of them have been pulling Biden's puppet strings all along. Carville believes this process would definitely defeat Trump. Maybe so, but not with Obama and Clinton running the show.

Apart from that, it would be something even I might watch.
