You're older than I thought. My first political memory is asking my Grandpa whether he voted for Carter or Reagan in 1980. As I recall, he said something like 'none of your business'. My barely 6yo self thought 'Yikes. I guess Carter, then'.

I was 7 or 8. My parents would discuss politics and especially the fact that while Carter was a decent governor of Georgia (where we lived), he was a horrid president. And then of course the whole Iran hostage crisis.
I'm 52 now, so not crazy older than you, whippersnapper.
