It is remarkable how DeSantis looked for a minute like he'd claim Trump's throne... and then, didn't

View original postI used to argue with Greg (years ago) about Trump not being a cult of personality. But, I've come around on the issue. His followers are involved in nothing less than that. Especially those "pious" holier-than-thou evangelicals that hated Clinton and others for their supposed ungodliness. Sweet fucking Easter Bunny, they will make any excuse in the world for Trump. And Trump is, whatever one may think of his policies, an authentic garbage human being. There is nothing redeeming about him. He's a liar. He's vain, pompous, crass, unkind, hypocritical, and a dozen other things. I hate him so much. And yet, I will vote for him over most of the Democrats in contention. They're only degrees away from being as bad as he is on a personal level and the policies they wish to enforce are horrific.
My perspective is I can't truly blame people who'd vote for Trump over the Dem candidate in a general election, I can see how they'd consider him the least of two evils. But voting for Trump in a Republican primary... that's another story. Then you're just deliberately choosing the pile of crap instead of the various other options you have - or okay, I guess by now most Republican primary voters will only get one other option, but that's what they get for not having given the other campaigns oxygen before the voting started.
And yeah, if you claim to be an evangelical Christian but you're actually going to choose Trump over people who actually represent your ideals, like Tim Scott or Mike Pence, then I'm sorry but clearly God or Christian ideals are pretty far down your priority list, so don't expect me to take your 'faith' seriously anymore.
View original postFrom my perspective, Trump did some great things in regards to policy, and I do like that he's not beholden to the D or R elites and spits in their eyes on some things. The fact that his followers reject someone like DeSantis, who would also follow many of the same policies and give much of the same attitude they want out, but without all the Trumpiness, just shows they're all in on the cult.
Exactly, DeSantis offered the same policies, with far more competence and only a regular politician level of ego and venality, as opposed to Trump's. Only real downside was he's stiff and bad at smalltalk - not much of a reason to vote against him, if you like the policies. I remember a discussion with Tom a year or two back when he was very confident DeSantis would dethrone Trump, which seemed plausible enough at the time. But no, as it turns out, they actually want the crassness, the egomania and the sheer not giving a fuck about the country or anything other than himself that Trump offers.
View original postTrump is the only politician I've ever truly wished death upon. He's a cancer on the body politic of this country and his death is the only thing that is going to start to cure us of it. As long as he's alive, his acolytes will continue to follow him and vote how he wants, regardless of the destructive path it leads us all down. So yes, I pray to the Sweet Lord Jesus in whom I do not believe to take him sooner rather than later. Just take him in his sleep, please. Amen to us all.
I can't disagree with you there - though probably the movement he's created will long survive him, one way or another.

Oh, I think she's unqualified. But Biden is declining rapidly, and Trump is insane. *NM*

He made some avoidable errors no doubt - but I'm not sure now, in hindsight, he could've won.
