I don't compare to Trump because obviously his problem is that he's mentally a three year old who very much needs his mom's guidance in everything, but somehow people allowed him to play-act at being president without bothering to manage him.
It's certainly an extraordinary report one way or the other - a very far cry from the carefully measured wording of the Mueller report...
I don't think Hillary or any other Dem had all that much to do with Trump's victory - even the Republican candidates who stayed in the primary too long and allowed Trump to win it by splitting the votes among themselves, aren't fundamentally the reason he won. In the end more than anything else it was about Republican primary voters wanting to give the middle finger to the establishment, the government, the world really. I do wonder what would've happened if Romney had won back in 2012 - but somehow I get the feeling that wouldn't have averted the rise of Trumpism really, probably just delayed it and perhaps gave it another figurehead than it would've had otherwise.
Yeah, your political system is atrocious and a significant part of the problem... in order to get better candidates, you'd really need to make some major changes to the entire electoral system, but given how near-impossible Constitutional amendments are in the current political climate, that's a non-starter.
Of course, pretty much every other Western democracy has problems of its own - mine certainly does, very different ones and I don't see it quite as bleakly as I do the US, but it's a clusterfuck all the same.
